In 2022/2023 both the U18 and senior national team of Japan played in the IIHF top division world tournaments. The senior national team finished the 2023 Women's Worlds in Brampton in 7th place after playing close games against top nations like Czechia (1-2 OT loss) and Sweden (0-1 loss). Team Japan was relegated to Division 1 at the U18 Women's Worlds in Sweden in January 2023 after losing the relegation series against Switzerland (1-2, 0-5, 1-2) and aims to return to the top division by developing their 14-16 year-old players through participating in events like our Showcase tournament.

The Japanese players have great potential and are on the radar of U Sports and NCAA scouts attending the Showcase. To mention only two for now, Kika Terauchi and Nanaho Yamaguchi are particularly interested to play hockey in North America in the near future. Kika represented Japan at the U18 world championship in Sweden. She was the youngest defence but played as many shift as other senior players. Her father is Canadian and the passion for hockey runs in the family. Nanaho was invited to the U18 development camp last season. She lives in Hyogo, where only a few girls playing hockey, but ice hockey is her passion. Her puck handling skills make her a key player to watch.
