Welcome to the Sabres Future Leaders

Back again for the 2023/2024 season is the highly successful Sabres Future Leaders program as featured in Women's Hockey Life this past season (click here to read news article).

We are very thankful to all of the parents that volunteer as coaches, trainers and managers in order for our teams to operate successfully during the season, but we also want to create the next generation of female hockey staff.

The Sabres Future Leaders program is open to all registered SCGHA players in the U15, U18 and U22 age groups.

Players that register online and join the program will be assigned to a Sabres team within the organization and will work alongside the coaching staff as an on-ice assistant. This is a part-time commitment as we understand that the player's primary team and their education will take priority.

As an on-ice assistant players will be taught how to:
  • Create drills
  • Introduce skills progression
  • Teach and explain skills
  • Build a practice plan
  • Run a full team practice
Players that register for the Future Leaders program will be required to have their Respect in Sport program completed.

For the players that demonstrate a true commitment to this role, wishing to become a coach or trainer, SCGHA will approve the payment for the certifications that are necessary to pursue these positions; such as HTCP Trainer Certification or NCCP Coach 1, 2 or D1.

SCGHA looks forward to working with all our future leaders this season and to watch our youth develop and grow.

Registration for non-Sabres players will open on September 1st.
