The Burgh Girls Fest Silver Medalists!
The U13BB Sabres travelled to Pittsburgh over the weekend of Nov. 23 - 26 (along with several other Sabres teams!) to compete in the Burgh Girls Fest. They were undefeated through round robin play, but came up just short in the finals against the Oakville Hornets with a 2-1 loss for the silver medal.

Game 3 vs. Oakville Hornets
Our only game on Day 2 saw us face off against the Oakville Hornets for a tough battle.  There was no scoring in the first 2 periods on a tightly matched battle - however we scored 3 quick goals in the third, and then allowed a PP goal late in the game, and a quick second goal right after for Oakville.  The last 3 minutes of the game were incredibly exciting as we fought off a 5 on 4 for 2 full minutes to hold our lead and the win.

Semi Finals vs. North Pittsburgh Wildcats
Our undefeated tournament put us in first place for the semi-finals and a game against a very hungry home team.  They played a much tigher defensive game and gave us a good battle.  However, two goals in the second period were enough for the win and to advance us to the finals!

Finals vs. Oakville Hornets
The Hornets were hungry for a win after their defeat in round robin play, and both teams fought hard throughout the game.  We opened the scoring on a defensive rush early in the second period, and things were looking great!  Oakville tied it up a few minutes later on a blue line steal.  And then, a heart breaking bad bounce off the boards and a well-placed poke put it in the net for Oakville's game winning goal.  We fought hard throughout the 3rd, including a 6 on 4 chance at the very end with a late tripping call for Oakville, but we were unable to come away with a tying goal.
