Helping Hamilton’s Homeless and McMaster Children’s Hospital
My name is Karsyn McManus and I am currently playing for the U18AA Sabres. Years ago my parents took me on a Christmas walk organized by the Helping Hamilton’s Homeless, donating food and essentials to the less fortunate through the streets of downtown Hamilton. It had such an impact on me. Making me realize just how lucky I was to not only to have the opportunities in life I’ve had (hockey, vacations, technology) but also just the basic necessities most of us take for granted like a bed to sleep on or food in the fridge or even socks to wear.

I’ve made it my mission since 2017 to include my teams in this wonderful event held every year. Last year I reached out to the SCGHA and I was able to collect over 200 pairs of socks to hand out at the Christmas walk and sadly, that was not enough. I ran out halfway through.

In 2020, unfortunately COVID restrictions took away this opportunity due to safety concerns and combined with myself needing emergency surgery at McMaster Children’s hospital, I decided to run an Amazon Gift Card collection for the children spending a lot more time there than I did and over the holidays and their birthdays and in my first year I was able to collect $700 in gift cards to donate to the hospital for sick kids. Last year with the help of the SCGHA and family and friends, I was able to donate $1100 in gift cards.

I’d like to ask all teams, family and friends of the SCGHA to join me this holiday season for our Holiday Give Back Campaign and make it the biggest one yet! We will be collecting new warm socks for the Helping Hamilton’s Homeless Christmas walk and collecting Amazon Gift Cards to be donated to McMaster Children’s Hospital in time for Christmas.

Our fundraiser will be held from November 1 - December 11.

We will  have in person donations of socks and gift cards in the lobby of Gateway on

Saturday November 19 11am-3pm
Saturday November 26 11am-3pm
Saturday December 10 11am-3pm
Sunday December 11 10am-2pm

Please contact Karsyn at [email protected] to arrange sock pickups if needed or if you want more info on this event.
