U18 AA "Give Back" Campaign
Please give your support!!  Click on Read More to learn about this great program.

I am Karsyn McManus, #28 and the Assistant Captain on the Stoney Creek Sabres U18AA team.  I would like to bring to your attention a special project close to my heart, the "Giving Back" campaign.  Due to the pandemic, we have experienced a decline over the last few years and I have taken the lead for my team to organize this event.

For the last several years, the U18AA team and I have joined forces with the Helping Hamilton's Homeless organization to gather donations and deliver hundreds of Christmas Blessing Bags to those most in need in our city on a special Christmas walk through the streets of downtown Hamilton. Unfortunately, due to Covid, the walk had to be cancelled but the rate of homelessness has continued to grow in our community. Due to the cancellation of the walk last year, I still wanted to give back and with the increase in mental health issues with our youth due to the pandemic, I chose to lead a fundraiser for McMaster Children's Hospital. In just one week, we were able to raise $700 in Amazon Gift Cards to be used to donate to the hospital then to be used by their Child Life Specialists to purchase toys, games, equipment, activities and clothing for the children in the hospital. The gift cards were the best option because it gives them the flexibility to purchase things that are needed because oftentimes certain age groups are forgotten during toy drives and other fundraising events.

This year I could not select one place to focus our drive to and I have chosen to lead my team in a bigger than ever "Give Back" campaign.  We have chosen to collect new warm socks to be donated to the Helping Hamilton's Homeless organization. This is often their biggest need. Just imagine trying to keep your feet warm and dry all winter long with nowhere to dry your socks. It could mean life or death for some on the streets. We are also going to be collecting Amazon gift cards to be donated once again to McMaster Children's Hospital and we are aiming to crush last year's total. Covid continues to cause havoc amongst our youth and their mental health even despite us slowly getting back to normal and will continue for some time. I am certain there have been girls in our own association that have suffered from the effects of Covid.

We will be collecting donations of socks and amazon gift cards at GATEWAY ARENA on the following dates...

Saturday, November 27th 10am - 5pm

Wednesday, December 1st, 5pm-8pm

Friday, December 10th, 5pm-9pm

Local donation pickups can also be arranged prior to December 12th.  Please contact us via our team manager or head coach.

I hope you can find it in your heart to have your team provide the idea of giving back this holiday season. Giving a little can go a long way. I would like to thank you in advance for your donation. Please feel free to share with your visiting teams and we may have a prize for the team that donates the most!

Thank you,
